Peppermint tea is one of the most famous and most popular herbal teas, especially in Serbia. It is traditionally a part of every household. Almost every home has some form of peppermint tea. Whether it’s crushed tea in filter bags, dried peppermint leaves, or fresh peppermint growing on a kitchen windowsill or in the garden, whose leaves are picked on the spot and steeped in hot water to prepare a refreshing drink.

It is widely known for its positive effects on the body. First and foremost, the simplest benefit is that peppermint leaves refresh and soothe with their aroma and taste.

Thanks to components found in the leaf such as phenols, flavonoids, and essential oil, peppermint can have significant antimicrobial, antiviral, and antioxidant effects. It helps with gastrointestinal problems like cramps, bloating, indigestion, heartburn, as well as vomiting and nausea. It can also soothe inflammation of the oral mucosa.

Peppermint, combined with other medicinal herbs, can alleviate menstrual discomfort.

Besides classic consumption as a hot tea, peppermint tea can be an excellent iced tea, or serve as a good base for a multi-herb iced tea.

As a perfect addition, whether for cold or hot peppermint tea, you can add lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey.

Pour 250ml of boiling water over one tea bag and let it steep for about 5 min.
