Description
Chamomile has many folk names, and the most common name besides chamomile is titrica. The tea is made from dried chamomile flowers. It belongs to medicinal plants, and is one of the most popular for making tea, alongside mint. This herbal tea is caffeine-free, and is perfect for evening hours both because of this and its calming effect.
The component of chamomile to which it owes most of its medicinal properties is essential oil, which is distinctly blue in color, and is very sensitive and evaporates easily. It is blue due to the high content of azulene derivatives, and for this reason chamomile preparations have a blue color.
Azulene derivatives are responsible for the anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects of chamomile. Besides essential oil, it also contains other medicinal substances (e.g. polyphenols, flavonoids, folic acids, phytosterols and many other substances). The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects of chamomile help with various infections and inflammations of the skin and mucous membranes. E.g. gum inflammation, digestive organs, urogenital system. As well as wounds or skin irritations. The antispasmodic effect of chamomile can help with relieving pain and cramps, as well as rheumatic pain and stomach ailments. Generally, it soothes inflammatory processes, softens and nourishes tissue. Among other things, chamomile has traditionally been used for insomnia, restlessness and nervousness.
